Xiaomi Redmi 10

The Xiaomi Redmi 10 is a new midrange, with a great value proposition. It packs a very fast MediaTek Helio G88 chipset, a huge 6.5-inch LCD 90Hz screen, a great 50MP camera, a huge 5000 mAh battery, 18W fast charging, and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. At its price, it’s truly a great bargain.

Design

The Xiaomi Redmi 10 comes with a 6.5-inch LCD screen with a punch hole design for the selfie camera. It’s a massive screen, hardly a one-handed operation, with a screen-to-body ratio of 83.4%. It has a refresh rate of 90Hz refresh rate, an aspect ratio of 20:9, and supports HD10+ which makes it an absolute delight to consume media with. It has a plastic frame and back, and a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 front panel. It is quite bright and vivid, peaking at 450 nits. It’s rated for IP53 dust and splash protection, which means it’s not waterproof. Like many Xiaomi Poco phones, it comes with an IR blaster and, fortunately, a headphone jack. It has a physical fast fingerprint sensor, conveniently placed on its side, integrated into the power button. It supports stereo speakers, which are great for playing with media.

Performance

The Xiaomi Redmi 10 brings in the heat with the midrange MediaTek Helio G88 chipset, making it very fast and great for gaming. It has a Cortex Octa-core CPU paired with a Mali-G52 MC2 GPU, with storage options of 4 or 6 GB for RAM & 64 or 128 GB for ROM. It however does not come with an expandable memory option, which shouldn’t be a problem. Paired with the 90Hz screen, running the latest Android 11 with an MIUI 12.5 skin on top, the performance feels very fast and premium. No lags or slow transitions on this one. Everything feels fast, fluid, and rich in color.

Cameras

The Xiaomi Redmi 10 has a quad camera arrangement on the back. It comes with a huge 50 MP primary sensor, for those excellent daylight photos. The ultra-wide is an 8MP lens, with a 120˚field of view, giving it great immersion for those landscape or group photos. There is an extra 2MP macro telephoto lens for those nice, close-up photos. It also has a 2MP depth sensor. The video can support up to 4K video at 30 fps, with HDR support & gyro-EIS stability assistance. It can also record 1080p video at 120 fps. The selfie camera is a generous 8MP wide sensor, capable of 1080p video at 30fps. The selfies are great and well-lit.

Other features

We can’t fail to mention the charging speeds in the Xiaomi Redmi 10. At 18W fast charging, the phone can get fully charged in about an hour. It also supports reverse charging at 9W. That’s fairly usable. That in addition to the fact that it also comes with a Li-Po 5000mAh non-removable battery, which is rather generous. Even with the high refresh rate screen, this should be more than enough. The main concession would be that there is no wireless charging here. It supports NFC for contactless paying. It comes in Carbon Gray, Pebble White, and Sea Blue

Similarly, priced phones would include Samsung Galaxy A23, Xiaomi Redmi Note 11, the Oppo A16K, and Realme C25Y. the main distinction at this price point is often a choice of a better camera or more memory. The sizes are usually standard and the batteries are often huge. It’s unlikely there are fast charging options as the price is too competitive. The design is great and looks at par with many midranges in the market now. The OS will feel right at home, especially if you have used a Xiaomi phone before.
